This is an interesting book, but I found myself dreading the ending, as it seemed it couldn't end well. But it did, in a way. A lot of dastardly characters!

This is a beautiful and descriptive fantasy narrative. The competition between the two master illusionists is obscurely presented, and it isn't until the final chapters that the characters come into full focus. The ending is interesting, but somewhat contrived, leaving the reader guessing about the fates of the two main characters. While somewhat reminiscent of Ray Bradbury's, "Something Wicked This Way Comes," the ending is poorly defined and less satisfying.
