I am a big fan of all the Mad Max films, Fury Rd and The Road Warrior especially and Fury Road is up there with the best of the 21st Century. So i was pumped to say the least when going into this one but I still was hesitant and knew that it may be a lesser film among the series and I was right for most but that said the whole series of Max films n now Saga are all very good films but those two are by far best and this one is not worst due to Thunderdome having grip on that title. This film has some things going for it tho, as always amazing action, stunts, visuals, and etc. Chris Hemsworth really surprised me cuz I was thinking his performance and character could be cheesy when I saw trailers of his nose and the fact he was the villain. But he was very good and also his character wasn't really a villain because everyone in film are villains perse because everyone in it are survivors and are doing what they need do. Ok so the film is extremely long first and foremost. Ann Taylor Joy or whatever her name is is barely in the film and honestly Furiosa is not either and her origin story is very...dull really and been seen so much before in movies. Similar to Hemsworth and his Dementus where he tells her that they are alike in the fact that they lost someone and that it's not them as much as it is the wasteland and the situation. Miller tries very hard to do more story, background, somewhat of character development with the yrs going by and etc. And that isn't what I am used to in Max films. I want the stunts and action and believe me it's here but at same time it gets repetitive and familiar from the previous film which is after this one that is a prequel. Lol. I see what he tried to do with this one but his filmmaking skills are something else, he is visceral and balls to wall with no story to get in the way. The lack of character development and story made you think on ur own about them and let the action take over. But this one tried hard to make Furiosa into a mythical atype superhero and esp at end with the voiceover talking like "some say she did this and that". She was just a survivor with one arm trying to live in wasteland. Nothing special about her and I felt same way with her character in Fury Road. I think Miller needs to get back to Max cuz I liked this one ok and all, worth a watch but mainly just as they say "mediocre" and repetitive with trying to hard to tie it into Fury Rd. They even threw in chapter headings and a useless love story that had no development just boom she rides with guy young in war rig and two mins later they are in love. Gee wonder how long love interestewill make it?? Decent but definitely a let down for me even tho like I said and said early when I found out it was being made...Furiosa didn't need her own movie much less origin story.
