Using a horrific episode in recent history as a springboard, Cummings engages familiar and unfamiliar characters who deal with fallout from Rwandan disasters which befell both its people and a group of spies and operatives. The book goes back and forth between exposition in Africa and Box88’s current involvement in dealing with continued problems posed by utterly corrupt survivors of the events 25 years earlier. Cummings’ great virtue is that he involve the reader in the lives of his characters, both business and personal. No endless descriptions (with brand names) of weapons, ammunition and other equipment. No tortuous explanations of byzantine tradecraft. Instead, we get plausible professionals working out serious issues, including the work/life balance so precarious for those in their trade. Excellent book, once again.
