This is a great book. What can I say without spoilers? Hm.
I'm not going to lie, when it arrived and I saw the size of it, I was worried that it might drag a bit. It does not. The book is split into sections, and the action takes place over a year. You end up being left with the feeling that the author has written a concise and pacey story about an immensely complex case.
The plot covers the intriguing cold case of a female doctor who disappeared and who was presumed to be an unclaimed victim of a serial killer. (BTW, there is no truth in the rumour that the serial killer was trans or that there's a transphobic element to the plot. Trans issues don't feature anywhere in this book.)
The plot is tangled in the best way - the characters are engaging, the motives are intertwined. Strike and Robin continue to both both likeable but flawed, and the characters of both develop.
I'm trying really hard to avoid spoilers, so all that I can really summarise with is that I recommend this book, it's a great read!
