The one-star reviewers apparently dont understand what it means to grow up a single child in a traumatic house. All those reviews focus on how she 'didn't help herself'. Jesus!! She's been carrying the weight of taking care of her addicted, mentally ill mom her whole life!! By herself. She doesn't KNOW how to take help! That is an EXTREMELY hard mentality to shake! As someone who grew up with an alcoholic, mentally ill parent, I can tell you that this show is about HER trauma, NOT about being a single mom. It's the story of freeing ourselves from the beliefs we have built up about ourselves, beliefs that were forced on us trying to survive in toxic homes. That we must take care of everyone. That we can not ask for help. That we must be charming and docile if we're going to survive. This series shows a true representation of the clawing and painful ways we try to fix this, emotionally and spiritually. How our beliefs about ourselves, and how the world works, can drag us down over and over as we work to heal them.
Bravo I say. Thank you for this character who I KNOW.
