The soundtrack is more intellectually stimulating than the movie. Incredibly overhyped. It’s a two hour toy ad with a couple three second long good moments.
The story is incredibly lacklustre. So many things could have been explored but never had the chance. It’s incredibly obvious that this movie belongs to the Barbie brand and was produced by Mattel.
Things that could have been explored: Barbie and Kens one sided relationship, Amatonormativity, the problem with matriarchy / patriarchy / sexism, genuinely questioning Mattels past decisions and current reality, the darkside of pretty privilege, double standards (don’t be stupid, don’t be a know it all, don’t be a slut, don’t be a prude ect.) where *do* the Kens live.
This movie isn’t marketed as a children’s movie and those three second snippets prove it was designed for young adult women but the vast majority is either pink washed garbage regurgitate feminism without understanding what feminism is suposed to be about or for a five year old audience.
