A highly misunderstood horror movie as people seem to expect it to be a jump-scare gorefest like a stereotypical slasher movie from the 80's. This is a slow moving yet captivating flick with an intense atmosphere, a beautiful score by Philip Glass, and a mesmerizing performance by Tony Todd in arguably his best role. It's definitely one of the best horror movies I've ever seen. If you decide to watch it, be patient with the slow pace as it really does pay off in the end. This film is more story-driven as opposed to being just another cheap thriller trying to scare you every 5 minutes.

I don't understand all the hatred for this film; coming from someone who has seen all the 'greatest films ever made' I can honestly say this film is excellent. The set design is amazing, the soundtrack is incredible, and all the actors look like their characters (for the most part). The acting is okay and the action is really well done. The story is basic, that doesn't make it bad. There isn't much gore like in most of the games, but I heard the first game wasn't gory to begin with. I think critics get their panties in a twist whenever a film isn't 'deep and artsy' and they fail to realize this isn't a story-driven film; it's an action-driven movie meant to entertain the audience just like the game franchise it's based on. I say it did it's job. So grab some popcorn, smoke some good stuff, and enjoy the ride this film gives you!

An underrated film that I think is much better than the more popular film "The Grey". No exaggerated, demonic CGI wolves; this film instead uses the legendary Bart the Bear, who is way more realistic and believable as he was a real bear. This was also one of Bart's final roles I believe, before he passed of cancer. This film also gives a more believable depiction of what it would be like to be stranded in the wilderness and fighting for survival. All in all, it's a good show.
