Honestly, It's what most people have come to expect from the Fast franchise - exotic cars, far away locations, and outrageous stunts.
It is above average, in my opinion, because they surprised me by attempting to connect this story with the one hinted at in the first Fast and Furious in Dom's early life. Those scenes, in particular, made it feel like a classic F&F movie (Street racing, betrayal/crime, and familial stakes) and I was pleasantly surprised. Honestly, that could have been a movie on its own (F&F Origins, anybody?).
There were quite a few mental gymnastics moments that try to explain previous events. Because of these moments, previous characters other than the main may have not been given enough of those classic family moments. The movie seemed extremely rushed in the end but I'm still curious to see if they expand some of these new narrative points in the next two installments.
