Atmospheric, Icelandic film, with a slowly evolving plot. Great performances all around in spite of the odd premise. Amid stunning Icelandic landscapes, the entire film reeks of loneliness and isolation (in a deftly, effective manner). Although slow moving, I liked everything about the film, except the ending. It was enough of a story that this young couple, living on a totally isolated farm, and having lost their only child, decides to raise a half human, half lamb baby, born to one of their sheep, as their own child. As the "child" grows, we see the couple's love and devotion grow to the point where the woman becomes intolerant of the child's biological mother and she kills the sheep/mother. But the ending ruins the movie. In one of the last scenes, a half human, half sheep creature emerges, shoots the husband/father and kidnaps the lamb/child. From that point on, the movie becomes confusing. And although I like films, where the ending is somewhat ambiguous, this ending leaves one almost speechless. It would have been better to leave the audience wondering how this odd and unusual family unit finally ends up.
