Well-casted. Well-acted. Cliffhangers.
In the beginning few seasons, I found every character very relatable in its way. Each had its own personality which suited to a fun plot. However, continued watching slowly evolves much predictability, such as Rafael's debaucherous tendencies, Jane's indecisiveness, and her inability to commit and stay devoted depending on the situation.
Rafael: His character provides little opportunity for audiences to sympathize(except for his past cancer) given his extreme sensitivities when circumstances go wrong. He also has considerable character issues. For example, Rafael knew Petra was already engaged yet stole her from Locklin, flaunts himself in magazine photoshoots, and uses one-night stands to numb breakup pain. Also, if I remember correctly, the last few seasons seemed to be a recurring theme of Rafael stuck in a difficult situation, cold shoulders Jane, ends up breaking up with Jane, but later on, coming back to her once more. Numerous times he did that. When will he be a man?
Jane: Overall strong character, but her overprotectiveness and coddling towards Mateo caused great annoyance for me as a viewer. Her over-sentimental attitude and constant crying seem a little too much for me. But her presentation perhaps is exactly what screenwriters were going for. I also did not appreciate her giving of herself to other men when she knew she would not marry them in the end, so men such as the online dude, Professor Chavez, skateboard man, etc. Seems to change her mind on a whim! On another note, her choice of mate seems all according to her feelings at the moment than intentional commitment! --> (Love Michael, aw Rafael is baby daddy and I got feelings so love Rafael, oh no Rafael got issues so love Michael, aw Michael died so love Rafael)
Michael: In general, he is a very well-rounded guy. Dedicated to his career, loves Jane truly with no wavering, and did not seek out random girls for temporal satisfaction due to emotional distress of break up, unlike Rafael. Solid dude.
Petra: Overtly, can be quite rude, cold, and inconsiderate. But gaining a better grasp of her whole story, one knows she can be quite soft too. Knowing her back story audiences can relate to and understand her personality. What makes her much more bearable than Jane is her ability to be forthcoming and straightforward. She does and tells it as it is.
Enjoyable show, and drama-packed which contributes to its watchability. Solid 3.
