This album is not just dethroning Jay Elec (and Hov's) 'A Written Testimony' as well as nuuumerous other great releases i cant be bothered to list here but i think they'll even get a Grammy nod for ALBUM of the year (not just rap album which i think they'll win easily tho tbh the grammys are a joke but seeing El P and Killer Mike - two totally diff artists who ive followed since the mid 2000's make an album THIS good and actually be rwarded with 'mainstream success' means there may bemore exeperimental/less cookie cutter rap in future if labels realize more than mumblerap and face tats over trap beats sell...
Not only did their sound evolve enough to make the 4yr wait worth it but it also caps off what is, and will continue hopefuly to be, the most steller discography in hip hop - 4 albums, each better than the last and with all 4 being well above average on their own merit...
I thought the way they used diff producers/styles/collabs (preemo/rage vocalist de la roche/poet ms.staples to the unexpected but brief 2chainz feature and the Pharell/Neptune influence on 'JU$T' - one of my many fav tracks) to produce an engaging 11 track listen with NO filler - ALL killer, and for it to evolve without losing what brought fans in (thas why i dont get this dude saying 'this isnt what was expected after RTJs1-3 - first off they aint makin music for YOU and beyond that, they did exactly what you could ask, they evolved so as not to be repetetive but were consistent so as to evolve etc -
Frankly the consistency theyve had since day one is clear here on an album with no 'weak' tracks, yeah i like oneo r two more than the others and like one or two a lil less but the two i liked a LITTLE less both had complete beat flips halfway that turned them back into hits for me
If RTJ5 is even equally as good as RTJ4 then ill wait 10 years...happily (kinda)
