Great book. It deals with environmental issues, like pollution of water and the killing of wildlife by the ponds created by oil sands residue. On a social note, it depicts the problem of people having to leave home to find work, particularly the problems created for young people who then must forego the guidance and support which would have been offered by family and their community. Great jumping off point to set off a discussion on the problem of vulnerability and loneliness, a problem not only for people from far away, like the maritime or northern Canada, but also for those leaving homes in Southern Ontario, or for young people coming to Canada as students.
