A more current version of the 2000 classic from Soderbergh with a compelling cast and a nail-biting plot that implicates Central America as well as Washington in the never-ending drug war story.

Images of MIB can’t help but be recaptured by your mind, but RIPD (while in a similar vein) is symmetrical with laughter AND a feel-good love story to boot. Plus who in his or her right mind would ever pass up an opportunity to watch Ryan Reynolds in top gear?

A weak tale about American muscle without brains, like 13 Hours. Pass.

As the Japanese would say, Maa Maa: so-so. So many good actors, so many dead wicks with no pace or tension. 👎

Soderbergh’s classic was superb the first time I watched it 22 years ago and it’s still best-in-class today.

First-rate 2009 comedy/teen romance with Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart, not to mention Ryan Reynolds before they all hit the A list, about a 1987 summer job at an amusement park with upbeat performances from the whole cast. *****

Well cast, brilliantly acted, with substantive writing and no plot holes. A shame more Americans comment on fashion and film stars than on realistic plots like this.

We’ll watch any of the late Tony Scott’s films anywhere, anytime. As a fellow octogenarian, I thank heaven his brother Ridley is still refreshingly alive and creative. *****

Sadly, a really boring and meaningless mess; an insult to the franchise. 👎

Same old stuff. Same cast, similar storylines, one-dimensional: where’s the creativity and the depth of vision here? The Russkies provided an opportunity for a dynamic shift that was met by a low-velocity oxygen-suffocating fart.
