The city is most probabbly Petra than Mecca as we know all islamic history is written almost after 150 years after death of Muhammad (but is he Prophet of the book ? because Muhammad is title and it comes only 5 times in quran much lesser than other early prophets and that too in past tenses !!! so it is very possible that prophet who is narrating is different than who is writing quran in different time and Muhammad living in petra is dead ... From verses it looks nebatians and nasara in quran are discussing theology and its geography is around jorden and north saudi as well as its language !! this gives strong evidence that city is Petra than Mecca .. also Mecca is not available in old maps neither mentioned nor on trade route !!) Becca sounds very similar to Beqaa, the Beqaa Valley is geographically part of the Great Rift Valley that runs along the Sea of Galilee, the Dead Sea and into the Gulf of Aqaba, and on into the Red Sea entire Dome of the rock platform along with the AlAqsa mosque is oriented towards Petra by less than a minute accuracy !!
