I love MBB which is why I was excited to see her in an action movie. I had high hopes for this movie but they fell so short. First off, I know as soon as I see Angela Bassett, I know the acting is going to be cheesy. I really don’t know what it is about her but I can not stand her acting. She makes every serious scene feel like it’s supposed to be a comedy. I like what they did with making her the good step-mother which is always portrayed opposite. But the father sacrifices his daughter for gold then has a change of heart and comes back for her. No way daddy-o I will not forgive you. They should have left it with him being the evil father and not wasted time with a sob scene of his death. The dragon was cool but I swear I’ve seen it somewhere. Then MMB character. I feel she’s trying really hard to show viewers she’s not a kid anymore with her pursed lips and sharp angle jaw cuts at the camera. I get in the beginning they tried to show that she was a working lady and nitty gritty but that doesn’t mean she’s ever been in combat with a sword. They could have made her out smart the dragon more than wack it with a sword that probably weighs as much as she does. The lack of character building in this movie is astonishing and as a female, I just don’t find this movie at all to be in the realm of girl power. I don’t know who’s giving it 5 stars. It’s not bad, just so much wasted potential.
