I think many reviewers went into this with a desire to see explanations. Maybe expecting that we can have a silmarillion for HDM. This is not that. This book brings us a mature through line, what could not be understood through the eyes of a child, to the HDM series. I understand criticisms of the book, but I think it finishes as it intended to and did not waste too much time as a glossary for the first trilogy. In the end, the story is personal, it is gripping, and the actions of others only matter relative to the protagonist. I think if you understand those basic building blocks of the story, then you can truly appreciate this work.
