The film is equal part literature, equal part painting, equal part filmmaking. Its fictional imagination supersedes the journey to the room which could be a brilliant commentary about faith and religion. The sound of the glass crackling in the tunnel haunts me day and night.

Milkman is one of the most difficult books of the modern times. It has the most distinguished style of writing and it requires a single read (you cannot leave it to the next time). This book is not meant to be a page turner, it requires special attention and dedication. By the time you reach the end, you will realise that it is worth it!
As a reader, I would just recommend you to make an effort to read this book, the book is probably getting painfully relevant now. The narrative is beautifully constructed and the characters can shame the best in the absurd genre.
