After binging since launch, it's progressively gone hill. The much famed character development seems to just be a mocking simulacrum of what made the first game so great. The story truly is a convoluted mess, trying to tell a quite dark and edgy story of revenge with themes I'd frankly consider pretentious and the character development is so weak it makes you really wonder what went wrong. The best part is the environments, but even then they look rehashed from games before and in all honesty the PS4 is looking quite dated, especially when looking at combat animations (blood, janky animations) and close up textures/models look lacking, though the sum of all parts is brilliant. Smack on top of that the hamfisted cringefest of diversity and progressive politics and you have a rollercoaster ride that sinks lower than the first game while barely reaching it's peaks. There are so many better Post-Apocalyptic tales that hit those emotional notes, that masters the environment and with flawless gameplay - most notably last year's Metro Exodus. It seems that both those who are overly political (as mentioned before, it's so overt it's bad), they seem to detract from many of the real flaws in this game while those who rate it the full 5 stars, the 100% reviews seem paid off or blind to the notion that it's flawed because of their personal biases. Try to avoid, otherwise wait for a sale and still be disappointed.
