Brilliant. Set in late 60s and filmed in a style of that era, this film explores the relationship between a troubled student and an old timer classics teacher in an American senior school. On the face of it a boring prospect but in reality a really moving story full of contemporary social criticism told in a humourous fashion with a strong moral around self sacrifice. Once again....truly brilliant.

Nearly turned off after 15 minutes because it had the initial appearance of being a scatty social media focussed teen flick.....all I can say is get through that beginning and you are in for a real treat. It's a really unique brain teaser that challenges the mind and your short term memory......pay attention or you will get lost! Great rework of the college reunion 'horror' genre although not a gore fest more psychologically shocking. Brilliant twist..... I'll say no more.

Absolutely brilliant series very much along the lines of Breaking Bad as the central character descends from benevolence and righteousness to self preservation with all the painful twists and turns along the way as he tries to save himself and his son from the local crime boss. It portrays a world full of corruption at every level where those from a poor black background in New Orleans have little future outside of crime. There are a few rays of light in the form of the seemingly sole straight police officer and a young barrister determined to fight for justice, but even their efforts are stifled by the all pervading corruption. Great story, good acting and nice twist at the end.

This film moves along at a steady pace, switching between apparent present, the near past and a point further back in time when clearly something significant happened. We don't learn what that was until the end when everything that appeared confusing and unconnected gains tragic clarity. Don't believe the critics, stick with it and you won't be disappointed. Very moving and thought provoking look at the psychological effects of war.
