Of course the movie is ridiculous, so are the Goons and Monty Python. It is was it is trying to say via it's ridiculousness that is important - that people will take your money and make a buck off of your regardless. Also, that we are so self absorbed in our own importance that we don't notice when people are struggling to fit in.
I think this is a great movie to show kids to teach them about accepting all types of people and to focus on kindness above all.
I don't think this movie ever wanted to be taken seriously so the critics shouldn't criticise it for being ludicrous.
