The movie has some beautiful dancing scenes and the setting was very spectacular but overall the cinema-graphic quality was low and the film long. Watching this movie was like drinking lots and lots ( an entire keg ) of low quality beer and knowing the next day you're going to have a terrible hangover. The film is basically a peace of racist Bollywood propaganda. The British, referred to derogatorily in the film as "whites", are portrayed in the worst possible light, almost childishly villainous, for 89 years of rule ( which should not have happened obviously) but then the brutal degrading caste system of India is swept under the rug in like a 30 second segment of this exceptionally LONG film. Did I mention the film is LONG? So the caste system and other negative aspects of Indian society are worthy of a whole 30 seconds of film and then completely exonerated ( even though the evil system is still practiced there ) and a short-lived British rule that no longer exists is boringly dragged out for the entire length of the film. The central British figure is made out to be cartoonishly bad and the central British woman character, who is so incredibly beautiful it is amazing, is made out to be a deplorable pathetic character ( even though without her help the Indians in the film would have failed miserably in the cricket game which is the entire focus of the film). The "white" woman falls in love with an Indian man who really loves an Indian woman and of course the "white" woman is so devastated by the loss of this Indian man ( who looks a bit like Sméagol in the Lord of the Rings and would never appeal to a woman like the female character so it is very unrealistic ) that she never marries and spends the rest of her life heartbroken. A ridiculous, unbelievable plot sequence. Personably I object to any and all racism and this movie is an example of racist tripe the kind of which jerky people use to justify their own hatred and racist views. Watch it if you want to see a not so cleverly disguised example of race bailing.
