It is regrettable that I did not like this movie. It was a sad attempt at reimagining the 2004 film and the 2017 broadway of the same name. There is nothing wrong with doing a remake of an old piece of media, but no one wants a copy, and what makes remakes good is the addition of something new to the old story.
but I fear the only thing that was added to this story was the usage of smart phones and social media in the "hierarchy" of high school popularity. granted it did an okay job at showing the new way trends moved so quickly with them, but i felt this wasn't enough.
and for the musical parts, I loved that they kept the best songs in, but I just wish that the difference in talent between the actors wasn't as large. No one was bad per say, but certain people outshone others.
The movie wasn't bad, it was entertaining and had some funny and good moments, Karen's halloween scene was one of them. But these good parts cannot overshadow the bad. If this was a standalone film it would not have as much traction as its predecessors, which is why I gave it such a low rating.
[ I also noticed a large amount of advertisements within the film, specifically for elf makeup, bubly, and samsung. hmm. ]
