A touching love story between two men at a horrendous time— in the South Pacific at the beginning of World War 2 —when such love was considered a perversion.I had never before read a love story of two men in love with one another and I was touched by the depth of their love and devotion. Really well done.
I found myself fully caught up in the story. And in tears when one of the main characters died. I found the writing to be clear and sensory-sense deep — visual, auditory, olfactory, palpable and emotional.
Profoundly insightful. Goldberg utilized the characters’ own experience of, and their insights into, the soldiers’ widespread betrayal and abandonment by the Australian government, a huge scandal.
The author’s personal commitment to humanity’s future… as an entirety and at the individual level…showed up for me when speaking of a newborn —"Maybe we can make the world right for this one”.
Worth reading. Particularly now when our world is on the brink of disaster once again.
