I have to admit that the first episode was bad; some of that had to do with getting the audience all the necessary background info on the characters -- including Batman/Bruce Wayne and Gotham itself -- and tying that to the present. However, if you stick with the show for a few episodes the stories get intriguing and the characters enduring. Ruby Rose does a wonderful job of portraying Kate Kane as tough yet vulnerable, and sets her apart as more than a "female Bruce Wayne." Kate takes up protecting Gotham both as a tribute to Batman and her cousin Bruce and for her own reasons, making her so much more than another bat-themed vigilante.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the story arcs play out and think far too many people have been too quick to judge the show.
