If you are a fan of Vampire the Masquerade, odds are you will like Vampyr. You play as Jonathan Reid, an English doctor who returns home after serving Britian in the war. He becomes an Ekon (aka Vampire) and the entire game is about his struggle to uphold his promise he made as a doctor to save lives. Your goal is to uncover the secrets of Jonathan's vampiric condition while, at the same time, fight to cure Britain of an epidemic that threatens to wipe out the population.
I love this game for a few big reasons; first, the gameplay. I felt like a real doctor, being able to take care of patients and make medicines. Second, there's plenty of history and character depth in the story. (If you aren't a fan of LOTS of reading and only want a hack and slash then this game isn't for you.) My final reason- how many games out there let you choose as a vampire what kind of person you want to be (good/evil)? Not many. Usually, you are a vampire HUNTER whose purpose is to hunt down and kill those 'monsters'. It's just too boring; too black and white for me. I like all the gray in the game in that, as a vampire, you get to CHOOSE what kind of Vampire you want to be. You don't have to be a monster.
So, if that's the sort of gameplay you are looking for, I recommend giving Vampyr a try.
IMPORTANT- if you want the best ending, that involves killing none of the civilians but civilians give you the most xp so you can level your abilities as a vampire. The battles become extremely hard for this reason. If you want a rich story experience where you get the best ending, I recommend going through it in story mode. Normal mode is too hard unfortunately.
