A clever and novel interpretation of the global pandemic raging around us. I was expecting a story with emphasis on quarantine, what this pandemic has done to us, and the new normal. This story however, goes beyond that making it a very interesting read.
First of, beautiful cover design. When I first glanced at the cover design, I was absolutely enraptured by it's beauty. Love the realistic and magnificent design. It is just perfect!
What really moved me was the many relations between the characters. They are all beautiful to read. The beauty of the relationship between the mother and daughter has been brought out very beauitfully. I love how there is a character with disabilities in this book. I don't know anyone personally who is mute but I loved reading this character. I feel like the reality of a child with disability was brought out beautifully since the very first introduction. The way a mute person communicates with others, understands them, all of that was beautiful to read. Great effort on that.
The author writes beautiful descriptions that bring the places to life, painting vivid pictures and bringing the places alive. Made me feel as though I was walking through those streets. Special mention for the descriptions that have been made somewhere half-way through the book. Absolutely loved them! I'm usually not one to enjoy action scenes, especially in writing. I usually find them draining and boring and skip lines. I was able to read the action scenes in this book without getting bored so that was a first for me. It wasn't too draining or lengthy and maintained the momentum of the book quite well.
I am not someone who is very fond of frequent time shifts in stories since I find it very difficult to follow. The author however has maintained great pacing and momentum that I actually enjoyed reading. This was something new for me. Great work on that!
The book lost me in the middle but the momentum was regained quite quickly and I was able to read it with the same excitement as before. Missing quote marks that could of course be ignored. There were a few tiny turn offs that I don't wish to elaborate on since they're all trivial in comparison to the eloquent story telling.
Several unexpected twists and turns that make the book so very interesting to read. Still wrapping my head around the climax!
In conclusion, this was a lovely book to read with a great concept and a beautiful balance between the several elements that this story represents - the pandemic, family, and society.
