*Possible Plot Spoilers* First off, I am an avid Resident Evil fan! The first set of Resident Evil movies were a serious disappointment with a main character that has nothing to do with the game. This movie however tries to stay true to the original games and that at least makes this movie more entertaining. Many people are saying how they dislike this film but it’s actually made well. The details in the mansion, the details of the police department, the orphanage, the truck scene, the dogs, the first zombie encounter in the mansion, the licker…all done nicely. The problem with this movie is that it tries to incorporate 2.5 games into one 1:45 minute film. A second flaw is that they’re trying to diversify the roles. I get it. Diversity is necessary in these times but you have to do that with new movies…with new characters…not movies that have a character following. I can appreciate the casting for Chris and Claire…but I can see where Jill and Leon were off the mark….and Leon is now the favorite character so…the casting for Leon and his story HAS to be on point! In this movie I can’t say they hit the mark with Leon and Jill was uninspiring. Barry is absent, the Hunters are absent, the movie lacks the puzzles, the hazards and the tension created in the corridors. It’s a decent movie…the problem is this needs to be a series with episodes and multiple seasons. That would allow for character development and suspenseful stories while allowing characters the correct amount of screen time. I believe that the content is just too much to cover in a 2 hour film and they need to get the casting right. However, that also means getting a bigger budget and big budget actors. The movie wasn’t bad but it will not live up to expectations until they decide to give it the big budget it deserves…and…allow the game makers to do the series. Maybe Disney should buy the franchise and throw money behind it. They certainly know how to do it since they’ve been so successful with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
