This is exactly the kind of film I don't like.
Except...
I loved this film.
If you want a shallow, space hero, shoot em up epic - this isn't for you.
If you want to actually engage with a film and root for a creature that would normally be seen as the 'evil alien' - spend some time and watch this film.
