This game is a bit of a mixed bag.
Positives:
Family Friendly (not just for kids)
Pretty niche card turn-based RPG with magical wizards and spells.
Can be somewhat difficult solo, but to offset this- it's relatively easy to find people to quest with/play with IMO. I've been playing since 2014, and I've completed many instances and worlds with friends I met strictly in game.
Each world has fun unique themes that are usually references to something in popular culture, movies, and even history. (while still maintaining an interestingly unique story and design)
The combat is quite simple and easy to pick up.
Pretty game, despite the older engine
Now for the negatives.
At some points it can be a bit convoluted or drawn out (story). You see this mostly in Arc 2. I haven't fully played through Arc 3 yet, nor started Arc 4.
Predatory Crown Shop
Keep in mind that there are things you can buy from the shop with gold and not just w/ crowns- and there are alternatives to the stuff from the shop you can obtain by just playing the game ex. fishing or grinding instances.
Most "optimal gear" in the crown shop/bundles.
I'm not 100% sure how much this is the case nowadays, but a few years ago some of the more optimal gear was mainly found within packs. yes. an RNG lootbox (which costs real money) with absolutely no pity. This might've been changed now- but keep in mind that there are options where you can pay lots of money to have better stats.
Community is "Toxic".
In the "PVE community" I don't think this is as much as a problem as some people might say. most people I've met within the intention of just questing through the story were pretty friendly and jovial. Of course there were some outliers, so do be vigilant. Whereas I do hear that the PVP community is REALLY bad, so if you're into PVP I might stay away unless you've got thick skin and a lot of patience
Overall, I think the game is worth it if you want to play. if you can ignore the crown shop and lootbox mechanics- it's a really good experience overall.
