As a mexican, this movie is a huge disappointment. The director himself (who’s french) said he didn’t do any research on Mexico to direct this movie or hire anyone. The stereotypes he knew about were enough, according to him. Also bad acting: how can you act well when you don’t even have a clue of what you’re saying and all your effort is put into saying the words right? The acting doesn’t transmit anything. It is disrespectful towards Latinamerican people because they are making a total JOKE out of REAL issues that our people deal with. To put it into perspective, imagine a movie about n4zis that is completely inaccurate and uses nothing but pathetic stereotypes that ridiculize jewish and other communities that were victims of the h0l0caust. It’s just not right. Now, I’m not saying you can’t have artistic freedom or always be historically accurate. But at least have some RESPECT towards the people that you are making a movie about and inform yourself. It would not have cost anything to simply google the real situation, meet latin american people, hire someone, ANYTHING, to show that you respect us. Instead, what the director did was IGNORANT and DISRESPECTFUL. The only reason they won prizes was because they randomly put all the requisites for winning; those prizes are just a checklist, not a true reflective critic. So, there’s that.
