While nostalgia has undoubtable tainted my opinion of this game.. I remember it being very fun and very frustrating. The soundtrack is top notch though - it occasionally pops into my head after ~15 years since last hearing it. It sounds the same as I remember. Maybe it isn't the most badass, or inspiring, but considering the tools available the soundtrack is very nice. However.. considering I was very young and impressionable at the time, this in particular could be influenced by nostalgia. The controls can be frustrating, but that feels fair considering the simplification of flight actual flight controls. The missions aren't so much intense are they just annoying; a single death, even of your partner in co-op, fails the mission, while your enemies fall out of the sky like rain and just keep coming. There are no upgrades, no powerups. You are the last fighter of your country and dammit if you don't have a country to fight for. In conclusion: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ✰ for audio and music (potentially boosted by nostalgia) ⭐⭐⭐ ✰ ✰ for controls ⭐⭐ ✰ ✰ ✰ for actual gameplay Overall: ⭐⭐⭐ ✰ ✰

This game is possibly the closest to perfection I've ever seen in a video game. It has had so, so much work put in to make everything you do enjoyable and believable - your armour and tools click on your back, the music and audio cues that adapt to what you or the environment is doing, the memorable characters and atmosphere, the limited but somehow endless choices that'll affect your adventure (you don't even have to do anything but the tutorial and the endgame boss if you wish!), and that sentimental feeling as you're playing it that in a few years you'll be crying in nostalgia over the soundtrack.. You'll fall in love with the characters, however irritating some can become. You'll cry over the failures. You'll discover so many secrets you could swear Hyrule is covered in every square inch by them. Absolutely worth a go.
