Wow. The acting and disturbingly accurate portrayal of a major drug problem in America which was originally legal and manufactured is well worth a watch. I mean the first episode is a slow start but by Episode two it starts to burn. People from all walks of life are affected after being prescribed Oxycontin, patented as the non addictive Miracle Drug that takes pain away with a less than 1% addiction rate. Nothing is further from the truth as we see Michael Keaton play a Doctor who prescribes Oxycontin to his patience potentially unaware of the potency and addictive side effects, he then ends up on the pills himself for pain at first. He then ends up in rehab where many people have been up to five times for alcohol or cocaine addiction but by the time 2002 rolls around Oxy is the new heroin and Rehabs have a mass of addicts, in a horrible state of mental decay and physical ailments begging for just one pill. Many died in this thought provoking series based on a true story of the DEA VS the Major share holders and Richard Stacker who became ruthless president of Perdue the company distributing and selling this wonder drug to pharmacies and paying doctors to prescribe it. It's only when those who were prescribing started taking the pill themselves are they aware of the dangerous effects.

Dark and disturbing. Brilliantly acted and extremely sad and terrifying. A look into the fundamentalist extremists in the Mormon Church. While this is a dramatic depiction of a real life murder of a sweet wife and devoted Mother of one by her Brothers in law who believed in blood atonement as Brenda, the murder victim was trying to steer her Husband and wives of these ego centric fundamentalists back to the Mormon Church and unfortunately it failed. Andrew Garfield is perfect as Lead investigator and Preistholder Brother Pyrer although he has a crisis of faith when he sees the horrific acts committed in the name of The LDS church and who they call God in general. His Wife tries to lead him back in prayer to the devout Head of the house Mormon Church and Brother he was to his congregation We are not given an explanation as to what became of the Real Brother Pryer or incredible characters portrayed by some top notch actors. The murder was glossed over I guess to avoid conflict as Brenda's sister Chloe in real life hated the way she and her sister were depicted but I beg to differ.

Amazing from start to finish. A Talented cast who bring the tension, sadness, death and wounds of the past from one of the worst genocides in our human history. All is not as it seems in this political drama based on a young woman adopted by a Lawyer and Human rights advocate who is shot by those trying to stop her from exposing truths best left forgotten and Kate her daughter is in deep heat trying to figure out who is lying and who she can trust. Without giving the plot away, Black Earth Rising is a must watch, gripping to the end. Michaela Cole delivers the best performance of her career so far. She's absolutely brilliant. If you remember her from UK dramedy Chewing Gum and Black mirror.
