It's an good take on the legendary kaiju. It takes the things we would usually expect in a Godzilla movie and makes it feel fresh and terrifying. Godzilla himself looks so unnatural and strange, that throughout the movie you feel a sense of dread. This time you root for the humans rather than the monster, which is something almost every Godzilla movie fails to do. Also it has a good commentary about government and bureaucracy, and how in time of danger how much damage and loss it can cause. It's one of those movies where it's not the best, but it's certainly does what it needs to do and does it well.
