I read this when it hit the shelves and though I didn't remember the details before starting the series, it all came back quickly. As most others have stated, I remember the start of the book being confusing and something I had to put more focus into than many other stories. Once the story gripped me, I could not put it down. It was an absolutely beautiful story that I feel is very underappreciated and misunderstood. I read the novel in 2006, when it was released, and am on episode 7 of the series now. I don't know how I would feel about the show had I just read the book but with the time between, I think it's a beautiful adaptation, both visually and in the telling. I will definitely give the book another read since remembering how much I loved it the first time.
