I love Supreme Master Kim Bok-Man's books. I keep his current textbooks (there are two at this time, and I understand there will soon be a third) handy and refer to them frequently. I believe they are indispensable for anyone teaching traditional Taekwondo intended for self-defense, not the martial sport (each has its place). Supreme Master Kim, after all, helped General Choi develop at least 15 of the original 24 first Korean patterns (adopted by the International Taekwon-do Federation or ITF) and the contents of the first English textbook published in 1965. Since I teach Supreme Master Kim's Chun Kuhn Taekwondo, I learn from them frequently as well as I study and teach the techniques in them. Master Kim's techniques are no-nonsense and intended to be effective, often destructive, inspired by his experience under Japanese occupation in Korea and on the battlefield during the Korean War (fighting communism).
