There are elements that give the superman feels, but there is something of style over substance to this movie. The main issue for me was is it didn't make me feel that superman is the paragon of hope. Apart from the scene with Lois where Clarke talks about handing himself into the government to find crypto (which did make me feel 'that is superman'), this adaptation does not give portray superman as a symbol of hope and a character beyond the pettiness that riddles our society and culture. Maybe it is because it is 3 years into his reign as superman and as the universe grows he will become more of that paragon and inspirational leader. Unfortunately, for me, in this film he is far from how the animated movies, the original movies or comics portray his character. I was genuinely sad when Lois said this isn't going to work and Clarke simply said ok and walked out. Superman/Clarke wouldn't do that. Only time will tell if James Gunn has the emotional depth to build superman into what the character stands for.

Quite simply a masterpiece. I haven't felt this way about a film since gladiator many years ago. It transported me away.
