I have read a number of published books about the Holocaust, Hitler’s reign of atrocities etc over time. I read a review of Irena’s Gift & thought it sounded a little different. The author sets out on a journey seeking truths & answers of her family who lived in Poland during the worst known atrocities the world has ever witnessed at the time of the Second World War, delving into the family’s painful past was not an easy task. Relying on family half truths, recorded interviews with whom she thought was her grandmother, letters of memories & a few family stories.
I felt very sad as I always do when reading such accounts about this period in time but also very uplifted, the resilience of human beings is truly amazing.
Thanks so much to the author, Karen Kirsten for sharing her story.
