I love this show! It's one of my favorite TV shows (quite possibly my absolute favorite show.) Though definitely not for everyone, the humor that's been infused into this awkwardly hilarious, unconventional parody of 80s television, is consistently greatly funny and well thought out. The show is, simply put, a parody of hospital dramas, horror television, and mysteries/soap operas, intercut with talking heads of the fictional creators of the show. The show is held together by Matthew Holness(director of "Possum") who stars as Garth Marenghi, the writer/director of "Darkplace", as well as Marenghi's character on the show, "Dr. Rick Dagless, M.D." His lack of self-awareness makes him overly confident in the value of his own works( of literature and filmmaking alike). Richard Ayoade plays Dean Learner, the producer of the show, who also stars as "Thornton Reed", the boss of Rick Dagless(or Dag, as his fellow employees call him). Learner's acting skills are doubtable at best which makes for some great moments. Matt Berry and Alice Low are regulars on the show and there are appearances made by Stephen Merchant (creator of the original "The Office"), as well as Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt of "The Mighty Boosh." Apart from the great/awful actors, "Darkplace" boasts terrible production value and poor filmmaking moves, which lead to some of the best gags on the show. In all, this show is well worth watching, whether you enjoy any of the comedy of the aforementioned actors or you love parody in general. Watch "Garth Marenghi's Darkplace"!
