I was curious since I read a review that said it was "original" (which I think made no sense because everyone knows it's based in z nation, we don't even have to watch to know that, the name of the show says it all) and "better" than the walking dead, and I as I've been a fan of the walking dead since the comics, and have followed every related show, I thought it would be interesting, but I really struggled to keep watching through season 1, I didn't see anything worth "getting attached to" enough to want to follow, first because I felt nothing for the characters, but mostly because the story was dragging and never led anywhere, but still I managed to finish season 1, and even watch a few minutes of the 1st episode of season 2, only to be certain of the feeling I was wasting my time.
One particular thing that I found annoying and overdone, is that whole "living humans are much more dangerous than the living dead", which we eventually always see in every zombie show, but usually in a much better dosed and not so obsessive way from the start, it gets to a point that I didn't even care about the zombies, because I was paying too much attention on the living enemies, and it was supposed to be a show about a zombie outbreak, no? If anyone else finds it good, ok, but for me, who've enjoyed almost every zombie related story in written or on screen since the late 80's, Black Summer was just a waste of my time, because for me if the story is not attractive enough by the end of season 1, the rest doesn't matter, even if it eventually gets better.
