I finally watched the whole movie out of morbid curiosity. I'm diagnosed as Level 1 autistic and have been a huge fan of Sia's music for years. I can believe her heart was in the right place, but she clearly didn't do enough research, plus the movie was very poorly put together. The dead grandmother scene bothered me; Music was laughing at the TV just minutes after her grandmother died, and the only thing she was upset about was her routine being disrupted, which perpetuates the offensive stereotype that autistic people don't experience human emotions. The restraint techniques used on Music have gotten people killed. I may be in the minority here, but I have no problem with neurotypical actors playing neurodivergent characters. I do think it had potential to be a good movie if Sia had done more research. Seeing her embrace her own diagnosis has made me regain a little bit of respect for her.
