Excellent novel, which is a true life account of the classic struggle between good and evil. It’s refreshing to learn of actual heroes in history. I was a voracious young reader who read Serpico right after its release in 1973. I was only twelve years old then, and it gave me my first yearnings of wanting to some day be an honest cop of integrity, like Serpico. It’s a page turner that you very well may finish in one sitting. Maas is a fantastic narrator for the tale. Turns out that I eventually earned my B.S. in Criminal Justice many years later and enjoyed a relatively safe career in the field. Instead of Police work or law enforcement, I opted to work as a Correctional Counselor who worked with Juvenile Offenders and young adult offenders. There’s redemption and dignity in most people, if you can successfully reach them in time.
