What can I say... This is one of my most read books. Johnstone does a great job of leading the reader into desperately wanting to turn the page to see what happens next!
Soldier, Mercenary, "comfortable" fiction writer, Adventurer, Leader of a Nation, Ben Raines is every mans man.
Written in 1983, it's almost foretelling with the story line. One can almost see everything in todays (whenEVER you're reading this) political climate.
Johnstone does a great job with the main character Ben Raines on various occasions explaining just HOW things got to the point that they did when the World went sideways and upside down. He provides a roadmap that we, as readers, would be wise to follow on how to make society more livable for us 'common' folk.
I HIGHLY recommend reading at least the first three of the Ashes series, and experience the highs and lows, the progresses and failures of a budding dream.
Remember, though this may be fiction, I fear there is a lot of truth buried within the pages. I hope everyone who reads it gets something out of it, be it a hope, a dream, or just a way to make life a little bit better. Truly an amazing read.
