The Alex Cross novels were a part of my formative introduction to crime thrillers, and I felt disappointed by Tyler Perry's rendition of the character. I appreciated the films with Morgan Freeman more but felt a disconnect from his portrayal. Fair warning, if you're someone who would rather ignore the the very realistic challenges that people of color in America face then this show is probably not for you. It tackles genuine issues of racism and cultural divides that DO EXIST in for a lot of us on the daily. I assume the people who wrote the negative reviews are part of the "I don't see color" crowd so if you're not, it's absolutely worth a watch.
The pacing can feel a bit off in spots, but that's not a reason to check it out and Aldis Hodge and Ryan Eggold NAIL their roles. I got chills during multiple scenes with both Alex Cross and Ed Ramsey. Solid writing, and genuinely this is the first film/show adaption of Detective Cross that I personally enjoy and believe.
