4.5! i think it was a great movie honestly. they’re not afraid to tackle things like divorce and does have quite good worldbuilding. it introduces these complex ideas to children in a fun way. maybe it even reminds parents who are going through such situations to remember their child who often gets forgotten when it comes to the whole seperation ordeal. the musical numbers were quite cool i guess but the movie does have its flaws as all movies do. the ministers didn’t prove that much to be a threat to get Ellain(?) to be a queen as i thought they did; the royal guards and ministers, despite making sense, felt a bit too quick to start bowing down again at the end. but all in all, the movie was straightforward and brings these complex ideas about families and relationships into light in honestly a beautiful way. i love it. i will never get why people dislike it. you can’t keep children safe forever. fantasy can have depictions of reality and family movies can tackle harsh problems the real world faces; just as anyone does as they grow up. i’m 15 as i’m writing this review; the same age as the main character. many people my age are going through the same thing she’s going— alot of the people that i know, in school or online. the depiction of ellain thinking that her parents dont love her anymore is honestly real asf. the depiction of people brushing my opinions or complaints away as a “she’s a teenager” thing is real asf. i’m dramatic. i’m insecure. i’m young. ellain is cool asf to me because she can grow and because she acts pretty teen-y to me! oh yeah and the animation is kinda cool. i liked the dancing and glowing floors. bolinar’s redemption was cool. and i like how the flick (the purple rat) is actually a useful and charming sidekick.
