I wanted to love this movie because I admire so many of the actors in it and I lived this story (in a less violent way ha.) So although I could believe the seemingly absurd story due to my own experience and was excited to watch, the script stole from so many rom coms that I’m sure it will become a drinking game. The writing did a huge disservice to the actors and was not paced well enough to sustain the obvious cliched plot and stale dialogue. The romantic duo- as lovely as they are—have zero chemistry and we don’t have sympathy or concern for anyone in the movie. The pace was off so the slow build in the beginning is just really slow and sadly, the humor that makes Evans usually so fun was limited and flat and the music and cinematography didn’t add anything either except a couple of good songs. It’s a shame the wonderful actors and fun cameos couldn’t make this script and awkward direction work. Evans and de Armas will no doubt have plenty of excellent films after this but the next rom com I think Evans should write himself with Ryan Reynolds.

What a waste of so many excellent actors. Cliched plot and terrible dialogue gave none of them a chance. All the action and Carano’s impressive fighting skills became monotonous because there was no balance of action with intention or good believable dialogue or tension between the actors. She was too cool and robotic to care whether she figured out anything or saved herself and no one else connected with her or anyone else for longer than a minute so you really don’t care what happens or who to root for. Really a shame they tried to build in character after the fact and led with action rather than any plot or personality. The highly stylized music and cinematography couldve saved it but dragged on and was one note so the 60s vibe had zero sex appeal or tension. Such a waste of some of the best actors in the world. Maybe add another female too in a one woman movie…
