Spoilers...
I watched this movie Saturday night. It is now Wednesday. This was not a movie I walked away from thinking "wow!", nor one I really thought was worth thinking about the next day like I often find myself doing after a really good film. However, I'm intrigued as to why I feel so confused and disappointed. Was it the musical aspect? I don't care for them. Was it Lady Gaga? There's got to be something deeper to this film. There's something I'm not getting. I thought maybe the director found the response to the first Joker film was not what he had wanted. Many of us empathized with Arthur Fleck. He was clearly mentally ill but was it due to nature or nurture? The guy really never stood a chance! I wish I could delve more into that here but I just really want to get this opinion on Joker 2 out. I'm thinking this film wasn't actually about Joker but more Harley Quinn, or Miss Lee Q. She manipulated her way into Arthur's life, pushing as hard as she could to bring out the Joker and when Arthur just couldn't do it she essentially killed him. There has to be a correlation between her shooting him (fantasy)in the same place he's ultimately stabbed to death in (reality). She kept saying they were "going to build a mountain out of a hill". Maybe Arthur was the hill and the mountain was the following, the ppl who painted their faces up and created chaos in the name of The Joker. She couldn't get what she wanted out of Arthur but she could out of them.
