Awesome game!
Rise Specific Pros:
- Monster variety is more extensive than World
- Wire bug speed is a very fun gimmick (probably a one shot deal catering to the ninja theme)
- Very colorful
- Cultural inclusion was a great move for their portable team (monsters, villages, map, story, etc.
- Super fun, climactic final boss battles with unique mechanics
Rise Specific Cons
- Less intricate map than World
- eliminates tracking, biohazards, and reliance on preparation
- Less grounded (this could be a pro to some people. I do like fantasy)
- lesser graphics and the likes.
Do keep in mind that many of the changes are very much Intentional by the PORTABLE team. They are innovating and experimenting on what works and what doesn’t. They also don’t have the same budget as main titles. Finally, they are dealing with the console’s limitations. This is a Nintendo Switch game.
I personally enjoyed it overall more than World, but even I can see that World is technologically superior. If there was one thing I would definitely ask Capcom to take with them to future titles, it would be the cultural variety. Western, Eastern, etc. it makes the world building so much bigger when there are different ways of life and hunting according to different land’s customs
I would ADORE it if the next portable’s title’s work was MONSTER HUNTER: PRIMAL. With an emphasis on bone weapons like Hammers and great swords like rise emphasized long swords and dual blades. The culture would be sort of Indigenous or antiquated natives.
