Unfortunately this drama did not live up to my expectations. Normally I love anything with Keely Dawes in and her performance was adequate. The storyline was weak, theme morbid and depressing as someone died in almost every episode. Jane's novels have always been the subject not Jane and so this rendition of Austenism was not very palatable. It lacked lustre, flamboyance and richness and came across as grey and depressing. As someone who lives near Bath I am aware of the richness of Jane's work and the inspiration it can give. On this occasion I would say the BBC can do better!
