Okay, I *did* enjoy watching this and so, if you haven't seen it, don't read this review until you have caught up.
So if I enjoyed it, why only two stars? Simple, the continuity was appalling. Okay, an odd slip, I'll put out of my mind, but in this series, half the episodes had dreadful continuity. And I wasn't even particularly looking for errors, they may have been elsewhere too, if I specifically watched for them? For example, driving an Audi. Switches to an inside the vehicle shot, and there is a Skoda badge on the steering wheel. Or, in the house of someone who has died unexpectedly. During dialogue between two characters, the body-cam light is on, cut away to other actor, then back, body-cam light is off. Another flip of conversation, and the light is back on again. Worst for me, at the dock, a Stena ferry clearly in the background. A large freighter moves in to shot. Swap of dialogue, then back, the freighter has disappeared!
While this may appear to simply be pedantic, in reality, it reinforces that this is 'acting', and when there are continuity issues like this, I can almost see a director calling 'cut, let's go again'...
It's good the BBC have commissioned a second series, but PLEASE employ a continuity advisor!
