This is such a pretentious show. Despite great acting, the storyline is beyond ridiculous. Spoilers mentioned… Rusty is extremely manipulative, calculating, and frequently violent. He repeatedly lies and cheats on his wife. But portrays himself as a misunderstood victim. He also exhibits manic and obsessive behaviors throughout the show. As a viewer, you find him very untrustworthy. His wife knows about the cheating (some parts of it). Rusty is selectively forthcoming about his trysts in an attempt to salvage the marriage. He fakes vulnerability to his wife and the therapist. Wife finds out he never stopped cheating or lying. Also finds out he was ready to leave the family for the murdered mistress. His teenaged children also find about the repeated lies and the affair. Rusty’s boss and the best friend, who was also repeatedly lied to and manipulated finds about the truth. The truth is some ways cost him election. Despite all his transgressions, Rusty just gets a slap on the wrist. His family rally around him during the murder trial. And the best friend/boss agrees to be Rusty’s lawyer. What?!? The only sane reaction is exhibited by the best friend’s wife who doesn’t believe Rusty and hates his gut. What a stupid story-line. Good acting is severely marred by the weak plot. Also the surprise ending is totally cliche. Go about who’s least likely to do the killing, and you’ll correctly guess who’s the murderer. Its an okay show at best.
